About

Hi, I’m Gerrit — a data scientist and consultant based in Germany. At heart, I’m a classic computer scientist, with deep specializations in machine learning, cybersecurity, and increasingly, the intersection of technology and law.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked across diverse domains: fashion retail (demand forecasting and price optimization), predictive maintenance in manufacturing, digital advertising (building scalable customer journey analytics), academic research, and enterprise software. My approach spans the full spectrum from theoretical foundations to production systems, research to consulting, and individual contributor work to team leadership.

What I’m most proud of? The machine learning systems I’ve built are still running in production years later, and I’ve had the privilege of teaching 100+ students — from university courses to corporate training at companies like Audi AG. Many of these students hold PhDs and chose to learn from me, which remains one of my most rewarding professional experiences.

Academically, I hold degrees in both mathematics and computer science from KIT and FU Berlin. I’m currently in the final stretch of my law studies at FernUniversitĂ€t Hagen, with a focus on data protection and European law. I also recently completed a B.Sc. in Economics, and I’m beginning an M.Sc. in Business Informatics — because apparently I believe sleep is overrated.

Since 2018, I’ve been working as an independent consultant, recently teaching in the LL.M. program “Law and Computer Science” at FAU Erlangen-NĂŒrnberg. The interdisciplinary nature of technology, business, and law fascinates me, especially as these fields increasingly converge.

About the domain name ‘uberwach’: it’s a bilingual pun reflecting both my somewhat excessive caffeine consumption (“wach” = “awake” in German) and my concerns about pervasive surveillance (“Überwachung”) in our digital age. It seemed fitting for someone who spends their time building systems that learn from data while thinking deeply about privacy and digital rights.
